Tijuca National Park Sets 2025 Attendance Record as R$75 Million Upgrade Push Advances

• Tijuca logged 4,907,563 visitors in 2025, its 18th straight year as Brazil’s most visited national park, with Corcovado rising from 2.3 million in 2024 to more than 2.8 million.
• ICMBio disclosed Monday it is executing a R$75 million program to expand capacity and modernize facilities in response to the surge in visitors.
• Recent additions at Corcovado include four new bathrooms with two accessible units, a new visitor center, hydration stations, self-service food shops, and a sturdier elevator hall.
• Projects slated for 2026 include three new elevators, four more bathrooms, a new panoramic viewpoint, slope containment near the railway and access roads, repairs to supporting rock buttresses, and a new sewage treatment plant.
• In other sectors, the park is restoring the historic A Floresta restaurant, repairing internal roads and researcher lodging, and reinforcing firefighting teams with temporary environmental agents to guide visitors and reduce fire risk.
