Tijuana Faith and Civic Groups Lead Third Viacrucis Migrante to Spotlight Migrant Hardships

Organizers cast the ritual march as a call for empathy toward people forced to migrate.

Overview

  • Activists and migrants held the third Viacrucis Migrante in Tijuana on Friday, a street procession that depicted the long and dangerous journeys many endure.
  • The event, convened by the Centro de Formación Integral La Salle Tijuana, began at 11:30 a.m. at the Arco Monumental and ended at Plaza Viva downtown.
  • Participants performed Stations of the Cross adapted to show violence, discrimination, and other risks faced during transit.
  • Daniel Novelo Huerta said many participants fled home to save their lives as victims of forced displacement.
  • Several civil and faith groups joined, including La Salle, Casa del Migrante, Instituto Madre Asunta, Movimiento Juventud 2000, Border Line Crisis Center A.C., Pro Amore, and the Padre Chava Salesian dining hall, in what organizers described as an act of denunciation and reflection to build community solidarity.
