Tierpark Berlin Names Sumatran Tiger Cub 'Lilly'

The choice followed a public call for suggestions judged by a Tigerjury.

Overview

  • 'Lilly' was selected from more than 1,000 visitor suggestions collected during a February naming drive.
  • The female cub was born in early January 2026, with staff saying January 1 is most likely though January 2 remains possible.
  • Her parents are Mayang, 15, and Jae Jae, who was recently euthanized after a decline in health.
  • Mother and cub are already visible to visitors as their explorations of the indoor enclosure become more frequent.
  • The birth continues a line that produced Luise and Lotte in 2022 and Ede and Kuno in 2024, while Sumatran tigers number only about 400 to 600 in the wild.
