Overview
- The accident, which unfolded Sunday around 4:30 pm, left three men unresponsive inside a covered drainage tank at a mushroom unit in Belsar village, Purandar taluka.
- Police said one worker climbed down to clean a wastewater line and two coworkers entered in succession when he did not return.
- Nearby workers and villagers used a JCB earthmover to break the concrete slab over the tank, then rushed the men to Jejuri Rural Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
- The victims were identified as Pintu Rajesh Prasad, 23, Vyas Soham Kumar, 22, and Gautam Ramsuran Kushwaha, 36, all from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh.
- Jejuri police registered an accidental-death case and began postmortems and a safety probe, with preliminary findings pointing to toxic gas buildup in the poorly ventilated space at the Wada Agro Mushroom Company site.
