Overview
- The three defendants were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Monday after admitting roles in a series of thefts and robberies carried out across Manchester between October 2025 and January 2026.
- On January 10, 2026 two of the women approached a 97-year-old on Dale Street, held her hand, hugged and kissed her, and stole an antique jade bracelet from her wrist.
- Sefora Mazarache was jailed for 38 months for attempted robbery, while Geta Schian and Geneza Dumitru were each sentenced to 28 months for attempted theft from the person and robbery respectively.
- Clear CCTV footage and a Greater Manchester Police investigation led to the suspects' arrests on January 14, 2026 and formed key evidence used in court.
- Police said the group used compliments, close physical contact and lookouts to distract lone or elderly women and urged people to report similar incidents via GMP’s 101 number, online live chat or anonymously to Crimestoppers.
