Three Separate Kansas City Shootings Leave Two Teens and a Man Dead

Detectives are handling three separate scenes with no sign of a link.

Overview

  • Three shootings that unfolded Sunday night left three people dead in Kansas City, with no arrests and each case handled as a separate investigation.
  • Around 6:30 p.m. near 110th Terrace and Greenwood, police said multiple people were present when an exchange of gunfire broke out, and Demetrius Smith, 17, later died at a hospital.
  • Just after 7 p.m. in the 7200 block of East 85th Terrace near Winchester, Cavazion Williams, 15, was driven by a private vehicle to a hospital after being shot in front of a home and died there.
  • At about 9:15 p.m. near 97th Street and Holmes Road, officers found William Hunter, 29, unresponsive in front of a home and EMS declared him dead at the scene.
  • Investigators say there is no evidence the three shootings are connected, noting such multi-scene nights are uncommon but planned for with extra resources.
