Three Pedestrians Killed in Separate Train Strikes Near Downtown San Antonio on Saturday

Officials report limited details pending investigations into how pedestrians reached the tracks.

  • Police and fire officials reported fatalities around 10 a.m. at Commerce and Salado, about 10:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Martin Street, and just before 11 p.m. at South St. Mary’s Street and Lone Star Boulevard.
  • SAFD said the man struck at Commerce and Salado, just south of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • For the late-night collision, police said the man had been sitting on the tracks and did not move after hearing the train horn.
  • A preliminary police report on the West Martin incident said investigators do not yet know how the person got onto the tracks.
  • Saturday’s deaths bring the 2026 total to four, including a Jan. 9 fatality involving a Union Pacific train near Saltillo Street and South Brazos Street.
