Overview
- The group — two 28-year-old women, Jazzmin Hock and Sarah Vida, and 9-year-old Kayden Kovalcik — did not return from a tubing outing that began on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from the Maple Island Boat Launch on the Muskegon River.
- The search began when the father of one woman found her car at the boat launch with a broken window and family members could not reach any of the three.
- During the response, search teams found two inflatable tubes believed to belong to the group and discovered footprints that investigators have been evaluating as physical leads.
- Michigan State Police K-9 teams and Department of Natural Resources conservation officers ultimately located the three alive and safe, ending the multiagency ground, water and aerial search.
- Officials said investigators will determine whether the disappearance was an accident or criminal and asked the public to avoid active search areas and to contact state or county authorities with any information.
