Three Men Convicted Over North London Fatal Stabbing

Detailed CCTV and forensic work produced the evidence that secured convictions after two suspects were extradited from Spain.

Overview

  • The victim, Gregory Castillo Volquez, was found fatally stabbed in Tiverton Road, Haringey on 13 January 2025 and a post-mortem recorded 22 stab wounds and blunt-force bruising.
  • One suspect, Benito Ramirez Kones, was arrested in Swansea five days after the attack and investigators seized trainers that tested positive for the victim’s blood.
  • Two other defendants, Carlos Akum Metumbe and Luiggi Perelli Santana, fled to Spain and were traced and extradited to the UK in August and October 2025 respectively.
  • An eight-week trial at Southwark Crown Court concluded on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 with Kones, Metumbe and Santana convicted of murder, a fourth defendant was acquitted, and sentencing is set for 10 July 2026.
  • The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Unit said CCTV showing blows with a machete and crutch plus forensic links such as Santana’s bloody fingerprints on weapons underpinned the case and officers said they hope the verdict offers some closure for the family.
