Three Killed, Four Injured in Kings Highway Head-On Near Monga

Investigators are examining whether speed played a role.

  • Emergency services were called just after 5pm Monday to Monga, 42 kilometres northwest of Batemans Bay, after a head-on collision between two cars.
  • A 38-year-old woman, a 19-year-old woman and a man in the eastbound car died at the scene, with formal identification of the man pending.
  • A 15-year-old girl from the same car was flown to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition and underwent surgery, police said.
  • The driver of the other vehicle and two boys aged seven and three were airlifted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries; the children remain stable and the man had surgery.
  • Police established a crime scene, reopened the Kings Highway about 5am Tuesday, and are seeking dash-cam footage as crash specialists investigate reports a vehicle crossed onto the wrong side.
