Overview
- A jury at Leeds Crown Court found Mark Fellows, Lee Newell and David Taylor guilty of murdering Kyle Bevan after less than three hours of deliberation on Thursday.
- Mrs Justice McGowan sentenced all three to whole life orders on Friday, with new and separate whole life terms imposed for the Bevan killing.
- Prosecutors told the court Bevan suffered 25 stab wounds and bled to death, autopsy evidence showed the cause was blood loss, and at least two weapons were used.
- CCTV showed the three men follow Bevan into his cell and emerge in under five minutes, one improvised metal blade with Bevan’s blood was recovered but the fatal blade was not found, and none of the defendants gave evidence.
- The case underlined tensions at HMP Wakefield where vulnerable inmates were not kept separate from main prisoners and may prompt scrutiny of prison safety, transfers and how high‑risk populations are managed.
