Three From Birmingham, Including 12-Year-Old, Arrested Over Cardiff School Bomb-Hoax Threats

Police say there is no evidence anyone on school grounds posed a threat.

Overview

  • South Wales Police, which announced the arrests Tuesday, detained two adults and a 12-year-old from Birmingham on suspicion of a bomb hoax linked to Cardiff secondary schools.
  • All three remain in custody as officers investigate the case as an offence under the Criminal Law Act 1977.
  • The anonymous messages, sent March 15–18 via the force’s online chat and later extended to St Illtyd’s High School, referenced explosive devices, firearms and knife attacks.
  • In response, Llanishen High School and Eastern High School closed for two days after a joint decision by police and Cardiff Council.
  • Police said they have found no evidence of any person attending the schools posing a threat, and inquiries into the online threats are ongoing.
