Overview
- Three providers — Chase, Norisbank and Crédit Agricole — are publicly advertising 4.0% p.a. for German Tagesgeld customers but the offers differ on guarantee length, eligible balances and follow-up rates.
- Crédit Agricole’s 4% is guaranteed until 31 January 2027 but applies only up to €10,000 and requires a Girokonto, Norisbank’s 4% runs about six months with a reported Anschlusszins near 0.75% and a Girokonto requirement, and Chase pays 4% for four months then cuts the rate to roughly 2% with no extra product needed.
- Other banks including several autobanks have lifted newcomer rates above 3%, and some incumbents like Commerzbank now offer higher short-term rates for fresh inflows, showing a broad promotional push across the market.
- These top rates are mainly time-limited newcomer promotions with varying national deposit-protection schemes — German, French or Luxembourg funds all apply — and the EU statutory guarantee still covers only €100,000 per depositor per bank.
- Following June 11’s ECB deposit-rate rise, banks have used short-term promos to attract funds so savers should check Zinsgarantie, Anschlusszins, caps and tax treatment and consider splitting larger sums across institutions to stay within protection limits.
