Three Arrested in Pune Recovery Assault as Police Probe IndusInd and Book Borrower

The case intensifies scrutiny of banks that hire outside debt collectors.

Overview

  • The assault, recorded near 15 Number Chowk in Hadapsar on Monday at about 1 pm, led police to arrest three recovery agents after the video spread online.
  • Investigators said the agents demanded more than the outstanding credit card dues of borrower Sandeep Jamadar and threatened to shame him in his housing society.
  • Hadapsar Police booked the trio under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for extortion, assault and criminal intimidation and identified them as Jai Suhas Kasar, Vinit Suhas Kasar and Tanishq Harish Khude.
  • Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said officials have summoned IndusInd Bank to explain its collection methods and the agencies it uses as the probe examines possible coercion.
  • CCTV reviewed later showed Jamadar striking one agent with a stick around 12:30 pm, and police registered a cross FIR that booked him for assault with a weapon and intentional insult.
