Overview
- An intelligence-led search at a Crowngreen Road house in Eccles began after information prompted officers to attend the address on Wednesday, July 8, and grew into a multi-day operation involving specialist units.
- Officers recovered what they believe were viable firearms including a shotgun and a handgun, live ammunition, a machete and a quantity of class B drugs; all items were rendered safe and removed for forensic analysis.
- Two people — a 57-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman — were arrested in relation to the find and remain in custody, and police later arrested a 30-year-old man who is also being questioned on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
- Detective Sergeant Gareth Bannister of GMP’s Challenger team said removing the weapons was significant for community safety and urged anyone with information to contact police or Crimestoppers as officers continue enquiries at the scene.
- Forensic testing and ongoing investigations will determine any formal charges and links to wider offending, and the visible, prolonged police presence has left neighbours seeking clear public information about the operation.
