Three Arrested After Shots Fired at Cherry Creek State Park Swim Beach

An active Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office investigation has closed part of the swim beach for evidence collection, signaling continued disruption to park access.

Overview

  • Law enforcement says multiple rounds were fired at the park’s swim beach, with the initial call coming in around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife rangers and ACSO K9 teams cleared and searched the area and closed a portion of the swim beach for evidence collection.
  • Six people were detained at the scene and the sheriff’s office later confirmed three adults were arrested, one juvenile was issued a criminal summons, and another juvenile was detained and released.
  • No injuries were reported and K9 officers helped locate the suspected firearm, but officials have not released identities, a motive, or whether formal charges have been filed.
  • The swim beach is a heavily used summer site, so authorities’ ongoing evidence work may keep parts of the park closed and could delay reopening while the investigation continues.
