Overview
- The Thread Group launched Thread Tools in public beta for iOS and Android on June 17, 2026 and published the project as open-source on GitHub.
- The app connects over a home Wi-Fi link to show which devices use which border router, which devices act as mesh extenders, and the radio signal strength between devices.
- Users can export detailed .json diagnostics to share with manufacturers or support teams so real-world problems that do not appear in labs can be investigated.
- Thread Tools is aimed at manufacturers, installers and advanced users because it currently lacks simple, user-facing guidance and some automated fixes for common issues.
- The Thread Group also announced a liaison with the Broadband Forum to improve coordination between Thread meshes and home broadband gateways as the ecosystem grows past 1,100 certified products.
