Third Leopard Sighting at Mumbai Complex Prompts Trap by Forest Officers

Officials are now using a humane trap in a nearby park to remove the big cat safely.

Overview

  • CCTV at Raheja Heights, which recorded the leopard between 3 and 4 am Tuesday, shows it roaming a parking area in Malad East.
  • This is the third sighting in about a month at the housing complex, following incidents on March 17 and 18.
  • Forest officers placed a cage trap with a goat as bait in the adjoining Sheela Raheja Public Park and are watching for movement.
  • Society managers limited foot traffic at risky hours, added cameras, and closed entry points to the adjacent park to cut off access.
  • A security guard reported the leopard seized a dog before fleeing, and local leaders plan to meet forest officials as the complex borders Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where leopards live.
