The Scrap Box Named UK Takeaway of the Year as Trenchers of Whitby Takes Top Restaurant at 2026 Fish & Chip Awards

Run by the National Federation of Fish Friers, the 38th annual awards used rigorous judging to set benchmarks for quality, sustainability and training across more than 10,500 eligible operators.

Overview

  • The ceremony took place on February 25 at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London and was hosted by Stephen Mangan.
  • The Scrap Box in Dunnington, York, run by brothers Aman and Gavin Dhesi, won Takeaway of the Year after mystery visits and taste tests.
  • Trenchers of Whitby earned Restaurant of the Year for high culinary standards, responsible sourcing and strong staff retention.
  • Runners-up included The Fish Works in Largs and Shaws Fish & Chips in Barnsley for takeaways, with Noah’s in Bristol and Whitby’s Restaurant & Take Away in Rotherham for restaurants.
  • Yorkshire dominated the results, and other category winners included Yarm Road Fish & Chips in Darlington for Training and Development and Donna Whitfield of Bells Fish and Chips in Durham as Employee of the Year.
