The Arena Moves to Turn SNK’s Fatal Fury Into Films and an Animated Prequel

The indie banner is recruiting high-profile creators to build a multi-format South Town franchise that could revive several SNK fighting-game properties.

Overview

  • The Hollywood Reporter reported Friday that The Arena has commissioned David S. Goyer to write a Fatal Fury feature that will center on brothers Terry and Andy Bogard.
  • The same report says The Arena is developing a separate Geese origin film with Grant Singer attached to write and direct.
  • Robert Kirkman’s Skybound is developing an animated prequel called Fatal Fury: The Vow that will follow the Bogards during their training years, and some reports say Arena aims to place the series on YouTube though that distribution plan is not fully confirmed.
  • All projects are in early development with scripts being commissioned, no release dates announced, and Arena is said to be expanding the slate to include other SNK properties such as Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and The Art of Fighting with a webtoon in development by Brandon Chen.
  • The move follows renewed industry interest in fighting-game adaptations and could produce a shared South Town entertainment universe, but the slate and platform choices remain provisional and may change as projects advance.
