Thane TMC Ramps Up Water and Property Tax Recovery With Waivers and Crackdowns Before March Deadlines

Limited-time amnesty offers with looming deadlines are fueling collections ahead of tougher action from April 1.

Overview

  • Thane Municipal Corporation collected ₹14.88 crore in outstanding water dues between March 1 and 16 during an intensified recovery drive.
  • The water-bill amnesty grants a 100% waiver on interest, penalties and administrative charges through March 31, with civic leaders urging residents to settle arrears promptly.
  • Enforcement has included 533 disconnections, 28 pump seizures and 14 sealed pump rooms, and the Majiwada–Manpada ward led recoveries at about ₹4.36 crore.
  • A separate residential property tax measure offers a 90% rebate on penalties for payments made between March 12 and 25, requiring settlement of the current year’s tax and applying retrospectively to recent payers.
  • Roughly ₹8 crore was raised in three days after the property-tax rebate announcement, with payments accepted at ward collection centres, on the official website via UPI apps and through a WhatsApp chatbot.
