Thane Collector Orders Monsoon Safety Audits, Drills and Dam Checks as BMC Widens IoT Pump Monitoring

The move aims to cut disaster risk by fixing weak spots before the rains.

Overview

  • Thane’s disaster team, which met Monday, ordered safety audits of risky bridges, culverts and old buildings and directed dam inspections with technical reports.
  • Officials will expand Aapda Mitra volunteers and run mock drills in every taluka to test response time and improve rescue readiness.
  • Dedicated control rooms will be set up at subdivision and tehsil levels to speed coordination, alerts and public assistance during heavy rain.
  • The National Highways Authority and PWD must keep JCBs, excavators and dumpers stationed at landslide‑prone ghat sections, with District Planning Committee funds covering rescue gear.
  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will add IoT sensors to all 545 dewatering pumps and monitor them from a central room to catch failures early after last year’s breakdowns.
