Thackeray Tells Bhima Koregaon Panel Pawar Letters Should Be With Current CMO

An affidavit filed last week points the panel to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for any official correspondence.

Overview

  • Uddhav Thackeray informed the inquiry commission that any letters from Sharad Pawar were addressed to the Chief Minister’s Office and should be traceable in its official records.
  • He said the panel should seek the documents from the present Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the current Chief Minister’s Office since he is no longer in office.
  • The commission had issued a notice to Thackeray in October 2025 to produce documents and letters allegedly submitted by Pawar during Thackeray’s tenure.
  • Witness Prakash Ambedkar told the panel that Pawar wrote two letters in 2020 naming those allegedly responsible for the violence, and he sought a direction in February last year for Thackeray to produce them.
  • The state set up the commission in February 2018 under former Bombay High Court Chief Justice J N Patel with Sumit Mullick; police say the January 1, 2018 clashes near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial left one dead and have alleged links to speeches at the Elgar Parishad conclave.
