TGS Launches Major Seismic Reprocessing Campaigns in Newfoundland and the Norwegian Sea

  • TGS announced on Wednesday that it has started the Orphan3D PSDM Phase 2 reprocessing offshore Newfoundland and publicly launched the Atlantic Margin South reprocessing in the Norwegian Sea.
  • The Atlantic Margin South program covers more than 23,000 km² and will deliver interim early‑out products in Q3 2026 and a seamless full‑integrity volume in Q2 2027.
  • Orphan3D Phase 2 will upgrade roughly 13,300 km² of 3D data with early products due in 2027 and final migrated volumes scheduled for delivery in Q3 2027.
  • Both projects will apply advanced workflows — including Full Waveform Inversion variants, Dynamic Matching elastic FWI, machine‑learning denoising, adaptive demultiple and proprietary depth imaging — to sharpen subsurface images.
  • The industry‑funded, multi‑client programs target specific geologic challenges — Orphan3D for Cretaceous and Jurassic intervals and Atlantic Margin South for volcanic imaging to derisk gas prospectivity — and could influence licensing, exploration planning and investment decisions.
