Overview
- TfL has published a full list of Piccadilly Line closures running May–November 2026, with many works timed for weekends and school holidays to reduce commuter disruption.
- The shutdowns will be used to upgrade power, tracks, depots, platforms and sidings and to test how the new trains interact with more than a century of Underground infrastructure.
- Testing is already under way during overnight engineering hours and weekend closures, including 400km of weight‑load trials with a fully loaded test train and platform adaptations at 119 stations.
- The 94 new trains are delayed but will begin a phased introduction from December 2026 and reach full deployment by June 2027; they add walk‑through carriages, wider double doors, on‑train CCTV and air conditioning.
- TfL says the new fleet will give about 10% more capacity and use about 20% less energy, but the programme does not include a signalling upgrade so peak frequency will rise only from 24 to 27 trains per hour; passengers are advised to plan ahead and expect some full‑line no‑service days.
