Overview
- Textron Aviation announced new upgrades for the Cessna Skyhawk, Skylane, Turbo Skylane, and Turbo Stationair HD that center on Garmin G1000 NXi System Release 7 avionics and Lycoming’s dual electronic ignition.
- Dual electronic ignition is now standard on all new Cessna piston aircraft, replacing dual magnetos to cut moving parts, extend maintenance intervals, and reduce operating costs.
- System Release 7 adds Garmin Smart Glide, which helps a pilot manage an engine-out by guiding the aircraft toward a landing option and easing workload in an emergency.
- The avionics update also enables Remote Wake, which lets an operator power up the flight deck from outside the cockpit to handle database updates, planning, and checks before arriving at the aircraft.
- Textron expects the first aircraft with these enhancements to enter service in late 2026 through early 2027, positioning the changes as a fleet refresh aimed at better situational awareness and a more intuitive experience for training and private owners.
