Overview
- The Grant Parish Sheriff's Office says Melanie Jean Worthington, 38, and Kassy Marie Cole, 41, used a drone to drop plastic crow decoys onto the prison grounds.
- Officials reported the decoys contained methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana, cellphones and tobacco.
- Both suspects were charged with possession with intent to distribute and taking contraband into a penal institution, and Cole also had an outstanding warrant.
- According to the sheriff's office, the women told deputies they were paid $40,000 to carry out the delivery.
- Sheriff Steven McCain said the tactic was creative but unsuccessful, deputies recovered the fake crows, and these arrests were the ninth and 10th linked to smuggling attempts at the facility this year as questions persist about who organized the drops and whether any succeeded.
