Texas Releases RFP for 6,000-Seat Volleyball Arena and Athlete Housing Next to Moody Center

The plan uses a Moody Center–style public-private partnership to limit university spending.

Overview

  • UT is seeking private partners to design, finance, build and operate a multipurpose venue for volleyball alongside new student-athlete housing.
  • The university would retain ownership of both properties while an outside entity handles operations under the proposed structure.
  • The arena is planned for approximately 6,000 seats with flexibility to expand for concerts, shows and other university events.
  • The site sits just south of the Moody Center near the northwest corner of I-35 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on a roughly four-acre parcel.
  • Coach Jerritt Elliott said the earliest likely opening is the 2029 season, and the RFP notes potential ground-level retail in the housing and a proposals deadline of Feb. 6.
