Texas Medical Board Suspends Houston Anesthesiologist Charged With Child Sex Abuse Images

The panel acted after a police investigation sparked by a Meta report led to a hidden hard drive with more than 50 illegal images.

Overview

  • State regulators suspended Dr. An Q. Van’s medical license effective immediately, finding his continued practice a threat to the public, and he is entitled to a hearing within 10 days.
  • Van was arrested on Feb. 12 on a state charge of possessing child pornography, posted an $80,000 bond, and was arrested again on federal charges in March, according to KPRC, with no further details released by the FBI.
  • An arraignment on the state case is set for April 16 in Harris County court.
  • Houston police say a Feb. 12 search of Van’s home uncovered an external hard drive hidden in a toilet tank that contained more than 50 images depicting child sexual abuse.
  • The investigation began when NCMEC relayed Meta’s report of a possible victim in the Philippines, and police later contacted a girl who said she was 15 and provided Discord screenshots.
