Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Killed After Semi Pulls in Front of Patrol Vehicle

DPS has opened an investigation and has released few public details about the semi-truck driver.

  • Romero was pronounced dead at the scene and is survived by his wife, Francisca, and two young sons; funeral arrangements are pending.
  • The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash remains under investigation and has not released further information about the semi-truck driver.
  • Childress is on U.S. 287 in the southeastern Texas Panhandle roughly 115 miles southeast of Amarillo, and DPS noted Romero is the agency’s 244th line-of-duty death since 1823.
