Texas DPS Investigates Suspected Police Impersonator Using Unmarked Jeep on U.S. 190

Authorities are asking motorists to report any stops so investigators can establish the scope of the incidents and protect drivers.

Overview

  • The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating reports that a person impersonating a police officer conducted traffic stops along U.S. 190 north of Houston in Walker, San Jacinto and Polk counties.
  • Witnesses and DPS photos describe the vehicle as an unmarked black 2022 Jeep Gladiator and the suspect as a white male wearing civilian clothing.
  • Photos released by DPS show distinctive stickers on the Jeep, including a visible “We The People” decal and an American flag–styled treatment of the word “Gladiator” on the tailgate.
  • Officials have not released a suspect identity and say they do not yet know how many stops occurred or the exact dates and times, so they are asking victims and witnesses to come forward.
  • Anyone pulled over or with information should contact the Conroe DPS Criminal Investigations Division at (346) 260-9824, email Luke.Williams@dps.texas.gov, or use the iWatchTexas app, and motorists who doubt an officer’s identity should call 911 to verify a stop.
