Texas Caps Record-Warm February as March Starts Hot

Forecasts point to a brief midweek rain chance alongside continued odds of a warmer-than-average March.

It was the warmest February on record across much of Texas. The numbers on the map represent how far above-average high temperatures were at each point across the state.

Texas temperatures for the last day of February will be at least 15 degrees warmer than our normal late February high of 69 degrees. 
A storm system will move into Central Texas on Wednesday, bringing solid rain chances through Thursday. Cumulative rainfall totals could top a half-inch.

  • Austin is set to tie its record with 12 days at or above 80°F and will notch its warmest February by average daily maximum near 76°F.
  • Based on average highs, Dallas also recorded its warmest February, while Houston posted its second warmest with 11 days of 80°F and a 75.4°F average high.
  • The first week of March stays unseasonably warm, with widespread 80s, stronger south winds Tuesday, and 90s in parts of South Texas.
  • Rain and storm chances rise midweek—around 40–50% in San Antonio and near 40% in Houston—but temperatures stay above normal, consistent with CPC and ensemble guidance favoring a warmer March.
