- Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock said nearly 73,000 Texas Education Freedom Accounts will receive initial funding on July 1, which the office called the nation’s largest first-year school‑choice launch.
- Homeschool and other eligible nonpublic students will get the full $2,000 award on July 1, while private school students will receive 25% on July 1, 25% on Oct. 1, and the remaining 50% in February.
- Families awarded before June 22 must choose a participating school by July 15, and schools have until July 31 to confirm enrollments through the TEFA portal or risk students losing access to payments.
- The TEFA Marketplace launched July 1 with more than 54,000 approved products and services from about 2,400 vendors, allowing families to buy tuition, textbooks, tutoring and approved materials directly with program funds.
- The comptroller’s office says purchases must go through the secure marketplace, no participation fees apply, and the program will face audits by the comptroller, an independent auditor, and the State Auditor’s Office to monitor compliance.
