Texas AG Probes Trucking Schools Over CDL English and Training Lapses

The probe signals tighter state enforcement tied to federal CDL standards.

Overview

  • Ken Paxton’s office opened the investigation Tuesday and sent Civil Investigative Demands to EP Texas Trucking School, Trucker Certified LLC, Fast Track CDL LLC, CDLCALL.COM LLC, and Lindenwood Education System (Ancora).
  • Federal rules require CDL holders to read and speak English to understand signs, talk with the public, answer officials, and keep records, and Paxton alleges some schools fall short by advertising in Spanish, telling applicants English is not needed, running 20‑day courses, and claiming certifications they do not hold.
  • EP Texas Trucking School said Spanish advertising is allowed, written exams can be taken in Spanish under state guidelines, and all skills tests at its sites are given in English.
  • The Attorney General said confirmed violations could lead to action under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which could force changes in how schools recruit students and deliver training.
  • The state push tracks with federal enforcement, including the U.S. Department of Transportation’s recent move to withhold more than $73 million from New York over CDL noncompliance, and follows Texas DPS steps to tighten checks on nondomiciled licenses.
