Overview
- Tesla announced the expansion on June 3, 2026, via its Tesla Robotaxi X account and said unsupervised Robotaxis can now operate across the full Austin metropolitan area.
- This is the program’s fifth geofence increase since launch and more than doubles the previous service area that had been unchanged since October 26, 2025.
- The newly covered area includes suburbs such as Pflugerville and Manor, stretches along I-35, and adds Gigafactory Texas and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to the operating zone.
- Despite the larger map, the actual unsupervised fleet remains small — recent tracker data and reporting show roughly 20 active unsupervised vehicles serving the expanded area.
- The move enlarges Tesla’s data-collection footprint and signals a push to compete on coverage with rivals even as the company keeps fleet growth cautious and continues iterative software-driven development.
