Tesla Sued After Austin Mass Shooting Links Suspect to December Assault at Gigafactory

The plaintiff says Tesla failed to protect workers by not disclosing her attacker’s identity.

Overview

  • Lillian Mendoza Brady filed a Travis County lawsuit on March 6 seeking more than $1 million, alleging former Tesla worker Ndiaga Diagne assaulted her at Gigafactory Texas in December.
  • The suit says the attack happened during a company-allowed prayer break in a common area and accuses Tesla of negligent workplace safety.
  • Brady alleges Tesla withheld her assailant’s name despite repeated requests, and she recognized him only after news coverage identified Diagne following the March 1 shooting that killed three and injured more than a dozen.
  • The Travis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it opened an investigation into the December report and has closed the case because the suspect is deceased.
  • Austin police say they had no prior contact with Diagne, Brady’s lawyer says the FBI interviewed her this week, and Tesla has not responded to requests for comment.
