Overview
- Tesla filed an emergency federal lawsuit in late July in the Western District of Texas asking a judge to allow immediate retrieval of die-cast tooling and finished parts held at Angstrom Automotive’s Troy, Texas plant.
- The company says Angstrom refused access when Tesla’s teams, escorted by law enforcement, tried to recover the equipment on July 21 and then demanded an extra $250,000 per week to keep the plant running.
- The tooling listed in the complaint includes multi-ton die-cast tools, trim dies, fixtures, gauges and X-ray inspection gear that Tesla says were paid for previously and would take up to six months to reproduce.
- Tesla warns that on-hand supply of the affected components will be exhausted in days and that thousands of already-assigned Cybertrucks could be delayed; the Troy plant also makes some Model Y parts used at Gigafactory Texas.
- A court ruling on Tesla’s narrow request for physical access is expected within days and Angstrom has not issued a public response to the allegations.
