Tesla Releases Native iPad and Foldable App With Two-Column Layout

The update improves usability by placing navigation on the left, with a large vehicle or energy view on the right for larger, foldable screens.

Overview

  • Tesla designer Alex Guichet said Wednesday that the company has begun rolling out a native tablet and foldable build of the Tesla mobile app for iPad, iPhone Duo and Android tablets and foldables.
  • The app adopts a two-column layout that keeps navigation and controls in a left column while showing a large 3D vehicle or home visualization on the right to use the extra screen space.
  • Homes with a Powerwall and solar get a live Energy screen that shows power flow between solar panels, the Powerwall, the grid and a charging car to make energy and charging status easier to read.
  • The change is tied to app version 4.62.0 and Tesla says the rollout is staged, so some users may still see older builds and the company expects the update to reach all users over the next week or two.
  • The timing aligns with Apple’s iPhone Duo launch and new SDK rules that let apps resize to the Duo’s inner display, a move that should improve daily use for owners who rely on the app to control vehicles and home energy.
