Tesla Recalls 12,963 Model 3 and Model Y Vehicles for Power-Loss Risk

Owners must visit service centers for a hardware replacement.

Overview

  • The recall covers specific 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles built between March and August 2025, including 7,925 Model Ys and 5,038 Model 3s in the U.S.
  • A faulty battery pack contactor made with an InTiCa solenoid may suddenly open due to a poor coil termination connection, causing loss of propulsion with no prior warning.
  • Tesla reported 36 warranty claims and 26 field reports tied to the issue and said it is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities associated with the defect.
  • Tesla will replace the contactor free of charge with a certified part that does not contain the InTiCa solenoid, with dealers notified in mid-October and owner letters slated for mailing around December 9.
  • NHTSA estimates about 1% of the recalled vehicles may experience the failure, and the action comes as regulators also examine Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system and a separate Cybertruck lighting recall handled via software update.
