Tesla Opens U.S. Orders for Model Y L Launch Series at $61,990

The six-seat long-wheelbase Model Y L is being offered as a premium Launch Series to try to lift U.S. sales while EPA range certification and lower-priced trims are still pending.

Overview

  • Tesla listed the Model Y L Launch Series in the U.S. with a $61,990 Premium All-Wheel Drive trim that is built at Gigafactory Texas and will be delivered starting in September–October 2026.
  • The L stretches the Model Y by about seven inches to add a third row and seats six with second-row captain’s chairs, and it uses electronic continuously variable shock absorbers for a different suspension tuning.
  • The Launch Series package includes 12 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and 12 months of Premium Connectivity, branded Launch Series trim and items such as a Plaid puddle light and suede dashboard trim.
  • Tesla quotes an estimated range of roughly 325 miles from an 83-kWh battery and a dual-motor setup but the EPA has not yet issued a final official rating that could change that number.
  • Analysts warn the premium price may limit uptake because the three-row SUV market is price-sensitive and crowded by established internal-combustion and electric rivals, while some buyers may wait for lower-cost Model Y L trims.
