Tesla Ends One-Time FSD Sales, Moves U.S. Buyers to $99 Subscription

A limited ‘Luxe’ bundle on high-end models is now the only path to lifetime access with no transfer rights.

Overview

  • Tesla removed the $8,000 upfront option for Full Self-Driving in the U.S. over the weekend, making access subscription-only at $99 per month.
  • Elon Musk has said the monthly price will increase as the software’s capabilities improve.
  • Tesla’s ‘Luxe Package’ on the Model S and Model X, and the Cyberbeast trim of the Cybertruck, still includes lifetime FSD along with maintenance and charging perks.
  • New fine print states the Luxe Package’s FSD and Supercharging benefits cannot be transferred to another vehicle or to a subsequent owner.
  • The shift follows Tesla dropping free Autopilot on new cars, and Musk’s compensation plan includes a target tied to 10 million active FSD subscriptions.
