Tesla Ends Model S and Model X Production, Fremont Plant to Build Robots

The decision channels capacity into Optimus robots to advance Tesla's autonomy push.

Overview

  • Tesla produced the final Model S and Model X at its Fremont, California, factory over the weekend, closing 14 and 11-year runs.
  • Tesla says the plant will now be retooled to assemble its Optimus humanoid robots, which Elon Musk said could enter production by year-end.
  • As a send-off, Tesla built limited Signature editions, reported as 250 Model S units and 100 Model X units.
  • Model 3 and Model Y accounted for roughly 1.59 million of 1.64 million deliveries last year, leaving about 50,850 for all other models.
  • Tesla says current owners will keep service and software support, capping a chapter that helped make fast, long-range EVs a mainstream choice.
