Tesco Trials Hot Breakfast and Lunch in Clubcard Meal Deal

Tesco will test £5.50 Clubcard hot meal options to measure customer demand before deciding on a wider rollout.

Overview

  • Tesco, which announced the pilot on Friday, May 22, is running the trial across 39 UK stores and charging £5.50 for the Clubcard hot meal deal.
  • Clubcard holders can pick a hot main such as a Beechwood Smoked Bacon Brioche Roll, Cumberland Pork Sausage Brioche Roll, paninis or a sausage, bacon and egg wrap and still add a side and a drink under the meal-deal format.
  • The retailer is also launching a chilled breakfast-to-go range in larger stores with items such as Butter Beans & Chorizo Egg Pot, Banoffee Overnight Oats and Strawberry Compote with Granola and Greek-style yoghurt.
  • Tesco says the changes are aimed at offering quick, convenient options for busy shoppers and the company will evaluate sales and customer feedback during the limited trial before any expansion.
  • The announcement coincided with Tesco reporting almost 30% growth in supply through its Tesco Sustainable Pig Group, a sourcing move the company says will strengthen support for British pig farmers and could influence future product availability.
