Tesco Launches Easter ‘Holiday Helps’ Food Donation Drive

The push targets families who lose free school meals over Easter.

Overview

  • The two-week campaign runs March 30 to April 12 in every large Tesco store, with shoppers able to buy £2–£5 pre-packed bags of long-life food to donate at the checkout.
  • Donations will go to Trussell and the newly merged FareShare & The Felix Project, which now supplies surplus food to more than 8,000 charities and community groups.
  • Charities say the most-needed items include tinned meat and fish, long-life fruit juice, cooking or pasta sauces, tinned vegetables, and tinned or dried soup.
  • Tesco frames the effort as a way to help when children miss free school meals during the holidays, a period local groups say brings extra strain on household budgets.
  • Trussell reports foodbank use remains about 45% above 2019 levels, with families with children receiving 62% of parcels in 2025, highlighting sustained need across the UK.
