TerraPower Signs Framework With HD Hyundai to Commercialize Natrium Reactors

The agreements give TerraPower access to HD Hyundai's heavy fabrication alongside HDEC's project-delivery capabilities to enable serial Natrium manufacturing before the 2030 ARDP plant.

Overview

  • TerraPower, HD Hyundai and Hyundai E&C formalized commercial agreements in New York City on May 20 to move Natrium from feasibility studies into concrete commercialization planning.
  • HD Hyundai Heavy Industries was named the preferred manufacturer for Natrium Reactor Enclosure System components to establish a scalable supply chain for serial production.
  • The three parties signed a tripartite cooperation framework to coordinate reactor design, equipment supply, engineering, procurement and construction for multiple Natrium units.
  • The companies plan to scale from first‑of‑a‑kind production to nth‑of‑a‑kind serial manufacturing to support fleet deployment, with TerraPower targeting the DOE ARDP first plant for completion in 2030.
  • The deals tie U.S. reactor design to Korean industrial fabrication, which could speed plants, create fabrication and construction jobs, and help secure the financing and commercial offtake needed for multi‑unit Natrium projects.
