Terminator 2 Returns to Theaters for 35th Anniversary

StudioCanal will use its 2017 4K restoration and 3D conversion for a global theatrical run that opens in the U.S. on August 28.

Overview

  • StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures announced the coordinated 35th‑anniversary reissue on Tuesday, July 7, and released a new anniversary trailer to promote the run.
  • U.S. ticket sales are scheduled to begin July 17 and the film will play in 4K, RealD 3D and other premium formats during a late‑August to early‑September window.
  • The global rollout starts August 27 in Germany, Latin America and the Czech Republic and reaches the U.S., Italy and Poland on August 28 with the U.K. opening on September 4.
  • The theatrical presentations will use StudioCanal’s previously completed 2017 4K restoration and 3D conversion rather than a new remaster, and StudioCanal is handling global distribution with Fathom and Rialto partnering in the U.S.
  • Coverage frames the reissue around T2’s lasting impact on visual effects and box office success, and notes that the timing near the film’s in‑universe “Judgment Day” has renewed discussion of the movie’s themes in the context of current AI conversations.
