Tempus AI and USC Launch Collaboration to Integrate AI in Precision Medicine

The deal aims to build a learning system to link genomic testing, AI insights, and trial matching across USC care.

Overview

  • Tempus AI and the Keck School of Medicine/Keck Medicine of USC, in a collaboration announced Thursday, April 23, set out to connect patient care, clinical trials, and research using one AI-enabled framework.
  • This systemwide effort covers more than 1.5 million annual patient visits across USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Keck Hospital of USC, USC Verdugo Hills, and USC-affiliated clinics in Southern California.
  • The framework rests on four pillars: integrating molecular diagnostics and genomic profiling into clinical workflows, automated trial matching through Tempus’ TIME Trial Program, AI prompts to close care gaps, and joint research and tool co-development.
  • The partners will start in precision oncology across USC’s network and intend to extend the model to other specialties such as cardiology, neurology, and radiology over time, with rollout details and measures of impact yet to be disclosed.
  • For patients and clinicians, the plan points to more tailored tests, faster trial matching based on eligibility, and point-of-care prompts to address missed steps in treatment, which could speed diagnoses and better match therapies to each person’s disease.
