Telangana Unveils ₹3.24 Lakh Crore Budget With Big Push to Welfare and Urban Projects

Overview

  • Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented a ₹3,24,234 crore outlay for 2026–27, with revenue expenditure of ₹2,34,406 crore and capital expenditure of ₹47,267 crore.
  • Allocations for the Congress government’s Six Guarantees total ₹50,713 crore, including ₹18,000 crore for Rythu Bharosa and ₹14,861 crore for Cheyutha, with housing at ₹5,500 crore reported lower than last year.
  • The government reported restructuring ₹25,612 crore of high-interest debt to reduce near-term outflows, and signalled open‑market borrowings of about ₹73,383 crore plus a ₹5,500 crore loan from the Centre.
  • New measures include the Indiramma Family Life Insurance offering ₹5 lakh cover to about 1.15 crore families from June 2026, a statewide breakfast programme, and extension of mid‑day meals to Intermediate students.
  • Priority sectors and projects include Education (₹26,674 crore), Irrigation (₹22,615 crore), Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (₹33,688 crore), Musi Riverfront development, Hyderabad Metro expansion and the Regional Ring Road, with the budget citing GSDP of ₹17.82 lakh crore and per‑capita income of ~₹4.19 lakh.
