Overview
- Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced in Hyderabad on Tuesday that Mahindra, Ather, Ola and Gravton Motors will offer 10–20% off electric vehicles to state staff, and top officials and union leaders placed orders at the launch.
- The deals cover two- and four-wheelers and could save individual buyers up to about ₹4 lakh, according to the state.
- The price cuts come from manufacturer offers negotiated by the state rather than a new budget subsidy, the minister said.
- The initiative extends a policy that waives road tax and registration fees for EVs and requires government offices to buy or hire only electric vehicles.
- Since the policy began, 115,551 EVs have been sold and the state reports a ₹925.94 crore revenue loss, with leaders saying they will keep pushing EVs to cut pollution.
