Telangana Puts Intermediate–School Merger on Hold, Orders 2026–27 Admissions to Proceed

The government will decide only after formal review in committee followed by an Assembly debate.

Overview

  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to start Intermediate admissions for 2026–27 to avoid disrupting students.
  • He deferred the plan to fold the Board of Intermediate Education into the School Education Department due to limited time and technical hurdles.
  • The government will consult stakeholders and have the state education policy committee examine legal and administrative issues before any proposal goes to the Assembly.
  • The Education Commission urged integration to curb post–Class X dropouts under the NEP structure, though lecturers’ groups warn it could lower standards.
  • Earlier reports pointed to an ordinance-driven shift and pilots, and about 600 KGBVs and Model Schools already run Classes XI–XII under School Education.
